Soaking up some nature in Sierra de espuña

Soaking up some nature in Sierra de espuña
29 Oct

Discover the beauty of Sierra Espuña, a hidden gem in the sunny southeast of Spain! Just a stone's throw from the vibrant city of Murcia, this breathtaking natural park enchants visitors with its rich pine forests, glittering rivers and high mountain peaks.
But there is more than just beautiful nature! Explore several caves with archaeological remains from the Palaeolithic and Neolithic periods.

The Arabs built numerous fortified towns, including Pliego and Mula. In various towns, there are defence towers, castles, remains of walls, archaeological sites, mansions and noble houses.

In the park, there are dome-shaped stone warehouses that sink far underground. The wells are called Posos de la Nieva. These date from the 16th century and are located at an altitude between 1100 -1600 m, close to the summit of Sierra Espuña.

These rooms stored snow in winter and served as a kind of ice cellar. After the winter, they were transported as bars of ice with mules to the surrounding villages and Murcia and Cartagena.
Of the 26 pozos, only two remain in good condition. Wells can also be seen near the wine villages of Yecla and Jumilla.

And for the adventurous among us, Sierra Espuña offers a playground of outdoor activities! From thrilling mountain climbs to tranquil kayaking trips and paragliding adventures, this park has something for everyone. With easy-to-follow hiking and mountain biking routes, you can explore the park's hidden treasures at your own pace.

So what are you waiting for? Grab your hiking boots, your curiosity, and your sense of adventure and come to Sierra Espuña. An unforgettable experience awaits you!
